The Qatar World Cup – to be held in the Middle East for the first time – begins November 20, and the final is scheduled to take place on December 18.

Brazil are favorites to win the tournament and claim a record-long sixth title, with teams like Argentina and defending champions France also favorites.

Here is the full schedule of the knockout rounds:

The Qatar World Cup FIFA on Saturday said it had set a record with teams from all continents making it to the round of 16 for the first time in history.

The tournament concluded its group stage on Friday, seeing the Asian Football Confederation’s record, with three teams (Australia, Japan and south Korea) entered the knockout round.

Two African teams, Senegal and Maroc, also entered the knockout round for the second time. At the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Algeria and Nigeria reached the round of 16.

FIFA’s director of global football development, Arsene Wenger, said: “The results of the group stage show the extent to which many countries have acquired the tools to compete at the highest level.

Quarterfinals

Friday, December 9

France and England made it through to the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Qatar with a string of goals that helped them convincingly end Poland and Senegal’s matches.

Argentina also entered the quarterfinals with a difference beat Australia 2-1. The Netherlands, with a 3-1 victory over the US, also won a place in the quarterfinals.
