UFC Vegas 59 was the first event in eight years to see a 100% finish rate, with every single match on the card ending in a knockout or submission.
In the main event, Jamahal Hill cemented his status as a top heavyweight, scoring a quality win over the former title challenger Thiago Santos. ‘Sweet Dreams’ was dragged into the deep water, but still went away with an overtime victory in the 4th round.
The rising 31-year-old has extended his winning streak to three games. Prior to the event, Hill knocked out Jimmy Crute and Johnny Walker, each with a KO in the first round, in head-to-head matches.
The co-main event saw a resurgence for Geoff Neal, who now has two straight wins under his belt. He became the first man to stop Vicente Luque after giving the Brazilian an absolute blow. The ‘Handz of Steel’ is improved to 15-4 and is expected to receive a promotion in the welder weight class.
Vegas 59 also hosted the finale of The Ultimate Fighter Season 30. Heavyweight Mohammed Usman landed the coveted UFC contract, beating his Julianna Pena teammate Zac Pauga via KO.
Juliana Miller also emerged as a champion of the season in the women’s flyweight division. The 26-year-old prospect used his grappling to overwhelm Brogan Walker and win a TKO in the third round.
In the heavyweight division, Serghei Spivac also fought two matches right after quitting Augusto Sakai within two. Maldovan raised the score to 15-3 with the win.
In the end, a light showdown between Terrance McKinney and Erick Gonzalez opened the show’s main card. McKinney, who was derailed by Drew Dober in March, returned with an impressive submission win in the opening round.
