Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios, said Empire magazine in September that director and co-writer Ryan Coogler brought to light the fact that Chadwick had passed away in the world of Wakanda.
“It seems too early to recast,” Feige said. “Stan Lee has always said that Marvel represents the world outside your window. And Ryan poured that into the story.”

It restored a sense of hope to me when I created it, and I think we’ve expanded the world of Wakanda in a way that will wow everyone – not just Wakanda, but the ‘Black Panther’ world.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has a black woman starring in a blockbuster superhero movie…It’s amazing. Then include an indigenous civilization with a real native actor in a mainstream blockbuster… That’s right… They set the bar EVERY TIME.
