British rock band Coldplay joined Iranian actor Golshifteh Farahani in Buenos Aires to sing the national anthem of Iranian youth protesting the killing of young people in a widely documented crackdown on the protests. due to the death of Mahsa Amini.
Iran has been hit by six weeks of protests that erupted when 22-year-old Amini died in custody after being arrested for allegedly violating Iran’s strict dress codes for women.
The song they sang was “Baraye”, in Persian, by Iranian pop singer Shervin Hajipour, which became the national anthem of Iran’s youth.
“This song is in Farsi so I can’t really sing it. But we will sing it together and we send it with love from Buenos Aires,” said vocalist Chris Martin minutes after the performance. .
The concert was broadcast around the world on Voice of America (VOA).
