vatican: The remains of Benedict XVI are buried in a tomb in the Vatican caves

The vatican say the remains of the Pope emeritus Benedict XVI was interred in a tomb in the caves below the main floor of St. Peter’s Basilica. Benedict’s body was put into a void left after the Vatican moved the remains of his predecessor, John Paul IIto the main floor to reflect the holiness of John Paul.
The brief funeral announcement by the Vatican press office came about 90 minutes after Benedict XVI’s funeral ended in St. Peter’s Square on Thursday.
Pope Francis presided over the ceremony with the participation of about 50,000 mourners.
Photos released by the Vatican show a zinc coffin containing a cypress tree on display for the faithful during the funeral. The zinc coffin is then placed into another wooden coffin before being taken to the grave.
