(Reuters) -Twitter Inc is bringing together working groups to reduce harmful content and spam bots, according to an employee memo reported on Tuesday by Reuters, amid a former executive Alleged that the company did not do both jobs well.

The social media company will combine its health experiences team, which works to reduce misinformation and harmful content, with its Twitter (NYSE:) service team, which is responsible for reviewing records. that users report and remove spam accounts. The new group will be called “Health Products and Services (HPS),” according to an email sent to employees.

Ella Irwin, Twitter’s vice president of health products and services, who joined the company in June, will lead the HPS team.

“We need teams that focus on specific issues, work together as a team, and no longer operate in bunkers,” Irwin wrote in an email to employees, adding that the team would ” ruthlessly prioritizing” his projects.

The establishment of the HPS team makes more sense because the company is facing challenges on many fronts. A former security chief and prominent hacker, Peiter “Mudge” Zatko, has accused the company of misleading federal regulators about protections against hackers and spam accounts. .

Twitter is battling Elon Musk, the chief executive of Tesla (NASDAQ:) Inc, in court as the world’s richest man tries to pull out of a $44 billion deal to buy back the company, accusing it of keeping information on how spam accounts are calculated.

Twitter said on Tuesday that Zatko’s allegations were intended to attract attention and harm the company, and said it upheld its disclosures about spam accounts and bots.

Twitter is also preparing to bolster its defenses against the spread of disinformation ahead of the November US midterm elections.

The reorganization of spam and malicious content groups “reflects our continued commitment to prioritizing and focusing our teams in pursuit of their goals,” a Twitter spokesperson said. I”.

The move also comes as senior executives including Kayvon Beykpour and Bruce Falck, who oversee consumer products and revenue, have left the company in recent months amid turmoil with Musk .

Teams responsible for reducing harmful or malicious content have been hit hard by recent employee departures, according to two employees who spoke on condition of anonymity.

At least one current employee said the reorganization was unlikely to have a significant impact on their work.

One former employee who worked on security at Twitter said he’s not optimistic the reshuffle will lead to improvements, because the roots of the company’s problems with spam accounts are historically deep. more than one group can self-manage. He declined to be named for fear of affecting future job opportunities.
