Jonas Rivera, Oscar-winning producer and behind Pixar Contradictory and Toy Story 4was promoted to executive vp, film production at animator.
In her new position, Rivera will oversee all film production and streaming at the studio, guiding projects toward their creative and operational milestones.
With promotions, producers, associate producers, and executive producers will continue to report to Jonas. Directors will continue to report to creative director Pete Doctor on creative issues but will now report to Jonas on operational issues.
He is also a key member of the Pixar executive team that makes creative and business decisions for the studio.
This promotion reflects both Pixar’s ramping up production of movies and TV shows for theatrical and streaming as well as Rivera’s significant contribution during her long stint at the studio.
Rivera is a homegrown talent at Pixar. He joined the animation studio in 1994 to work Toy Story as the studio’s first and only production intern. He stepped up to the role in most of the subsequent Pixar feature films: art department coordinator for The Life of a Bugmarketing coordinator and creative resource on Toy Story 2art department director on Monsters, Inc. and production manager on Car. He became an official producer with the studio’s 2009 film Upnominated for an Oscar for Best Animated Feature.
In 2015, Rivera tried again with UpDirector of Pete Docter, cho Contradictory, won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and was nominated for Best Original Screenplay. He produced most recently Toy Story 4The film also won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature 2020.
Currently, he is overseeing Pixar’s latest original feature completion, Elementworking with director Peter Sohn and producer Denise Ream for a June 16 premiere.
He’s in the middle of production Win or losea series for Disney+, and leading Pixar’s spring and summer 2024 feature film releases, Elio and Inside Out 2.
