Everything we know about the movie Super Mario Bros.
The movie Super Mario Bros. released in theaters in 1993 was not what people expected. While the games are bright, colorful and fun, Super Mario Bros. is a dark, sombre film in which Goombas are anthropomorphic dinosaurs with shrunken heads, Yoshi is a literal dinosaur, and Bowser – later King Koopa – is a human – hybrid dinosaur played by Dennis Hopper. There could be a fantasy story about Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto watching the movie and smiling at the end and saying he’s fine with it because no one will mistake it to have anything to do with his games.
Since then, Nintendo has shied away from the big screen. There are occasional rumors that the Metroid and Zelda movies are options, but we didn’t get anything definite until Nintendo announced The Super Mario Bros. The movie, along with its cast, is headed by Chris Pratt. The film’s cast has received much criticism from all over the internet.
Actors like Jack Black, Seth Rogen, and Charlie Day were largely welcomed by fans, but Pratt was ridiculed by everyone, from Mario fans who wanted to see Mario’s longtime voice actor, Charles Martinet, to the tired audience. about Chris Pratt’s increasingly tedious performances in films like Jurassic World: Dominion, to former Super Mario Bros. actor John Leguizamo, who spoke out about the lack of variety in the cast. Pratt assures fans that his Mario voice won’t just be a normal one, it will be “unlike anything you’ve ever heard,” but fans have found the trailer to suggest otherwise.
