Over the last decade, stolen bases were becoming a dying art form in Major League Baseball, but with the new rules implemented this season (including larger bases and limiting the number of pickoff attempts), steals are back in a big way. Prior to this year, it had been more than five seasons since a player swiped more than 50 bags in one season, and it had been almost a decade since the league leaders in SBs each topped the 50 mark. We aren’t even in September yet, and both Ronald Acuna Jr. (61) and Esteury Ruiz (51) have already eclipsed that pace. It would be hard to argue that the new rules have been anything but good for the game of baseball, and the uptick in stolen bases certainly plays a big role in that success.
Which brings us to today’s quiz of the day. Since the 2000 MLB season, a player has stolen 50 or more bases in a season on 47 occasions, including Acuna Jr. and Ruiz. So with that in mind, how many of those 47 can you name in five minutes?
