The 28-year-old moves closer to sealing Arsenal’s exit

Arsenal defender Pablo Mari is getting closer to a move to Serie A side Monza, a report from Daily mail declared. The 28-year-old central defender, who spent the second half of the 2021-22 season on loan at Udineseis said to be keen to return to Italy.

The Gunners loaned Udinese Mari for six months in January. He easily adapted to the Italian top flight and ended up impressing his new bosses in the 15 Serie A games he played for them. Unfortunately for Udinese, there are no buy options included in Mari’s contract.

It is believed Udinese is still interested in signing the Spaniard but finds himself in an uphill battle with Monza, who have emerged as front-runners for Mari’s service.

According to reports, Monza is close to completing a loan deal with Arsenal for Mari. The deal, which could be finalized in the next 48 hours, will feature a mandatory purchase option that will be activated if Monza manages to avoid relegation during the 2022-23 season.

Serie A outfit Hellas Verona has also shown an interest in Mari, while the player himself has turned down offers from Turkish club Fenerbahce. The defender, who has played 22 games across leagues for the north London side, is contracted with the Gunners until June 2024.

Arsenal will play the first match of the 2022-23 Premier League season

On Friday, August 5, Arsenal will meet Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, thereby kicking off the 2022-23 Premier League campaign.

The Gunners are entering the match in pre-season wobbly form, having won all five friendlies. During last season, they scored 20 goals and conceded only 4.

New signing Gabriel Jesus emerged as their best player in that period, scoring seven goals. Fans of the north London club will expect the Brazilian to bring his pre-season form to the Premier League.

Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace, who played some fantastic football last season, might have a thing or two to say about that.
