They say that fairy tales can leave a lasting impression on children. For me, it’s Cinderella. This is the poor girl hurrying away. Her only friend is the literal rodent in the house. She finally received an invitation to come the hottest prom in town, dressed like a doll, and then LOST her incredible heels (borrow, no less) after just one wear! The feelings of hangover must have been real, and I was as relieved as she must have gotten them back. (Side note: Does shoe sizing don’t exist in fairy tales?) It proved to me that the right pair of shoes can really change your life. (And a glass shoe? How chic that?)
Needless to say, I’ve been a shoe shiner ever since. Anytime we go away on a family vacation, my dad would grumble and say, “Do you really need that many shoes? We’ve only been gone for a week,” to which my mother and I would reply, “Exactly!” A lot can happen in a week. What if we get stuck without the right footwear? It feels silly, and we are nothing if not realistic.
That has practically grown since then. I still love a dizzy heel from time to time, but after a few hard lessons (almost destroyed my ankle on some Paris Cobblestonefor one), I’m looking for functionality besides fun. Do not misunderstand me; I don’t exactly buy eye-catching shoes; It’s just that they feel sweet on the soles of my feet — like the ones I’ve listed below.
