Change your mind
You may be undeclared because it seems like an all-or-nothing approach. You can’t be a minimalist when you have a family to take care of and hobbies you love! Home Arrangement Specialist Mary J Harnan from All Sorters tells us:
“You don’t have to be a minimalist to get organized… If your furniture is out of balance, it’s about finding ways to change the way you think about needing furniture. I ask ‘Is your stuff an accessory to your life’, or ‘Is your life taking care of your stuff?’ Collectors manage their collections, they are organized, they can buy and sell, but they can think about their collection rationally. While hoarding means items are often not treated with respect, boxed up, and never appreciated, or collections can get mixed up. It is more about ‘keeping’ than anything else. “
Determine if you are a collector, a hoarder in need of treatment, or just someone whose mayhem is out of control. In some cases, all it takes is to organize your clutter into storage.

Prevent ‘cramming’ by declaring
Is your home almost inaccessible because your clothes are topped with stylish bar stools and toys on the sofa? Are you overwhelmed by the sheer number of things you have?
Psychologist Sarah Tottle tells us that many people experience ‘suffocation’, which is an anxiety burdened by too much stuff. To combat this, she suggests:
“When cleaning a spring, observe whether an object arouses joy in you. Does it have a real practical purpose and has it been used recently? If the answer to these questions is no, then discard it and give it to someone who will appreciate it. “
Make the organization a habit
Once you’ve given up on items you really don’t need, the next challenge is to keep it that way. The field of Petria Leggo from Coco Rose Interiors told us:
“Like hoarding, organization can become a habit – The best way to maintain your home is to do regular maintenance. Take time at the end of each day to clean up. I like to make sure all of my flat surfaces are well ventilated before going to bed. Dining tables and benches in the kitchen should always be clean and a good place to start for problem hoarders. From there, move on to overflowing storage areas that focus on one room at a time. Your goal is to eliminate clutter, not create extra storage space elsewhere in the house. I like to use three rules: crate, give away, or sell. Only keep items with a purpose. “

Once you’ve saved, you also need to make sure you don’t fall into the same spending and hoarding habits as before. Try doing a cost-benefit analysis before buying anything where you wonder how much money you’ll get from this particular item. Also, check in with yourself to see if you bought out of boredom, sadness, or other negative emotions. If you want to buy something too expensive or very large, wait a week to see if you still want it.
