If you were anywhere between the ages of 12 and 35 at any point in the 1990s, chances are you’ve had a pair of Reef sandals on your feet for most of the summer. And if you live near a beach and are least concerned with being cool and comfortable, I’d upgrade that chance from “pretty” to “closer”. Coral reef actually been around since the mid 80’s, but the company hit its stride at the same time “Cotton Eye Joe” and “Gangsta’s Paradise” were making waves and dumb and dumb And Water world killed it at the box office. (Ah, it’s not Water world, actually, if we take the cost of production into account.)
In the first decade that Reef produced footwear, they were all comfortable, durable and stylish sandals suitable for the beach or town. The company first introduced closed-toe shoes in 1996, by the way, but the look is still sandal-centric — and male-centric, by the way.
It wasn’t until 1999 that Reef released any shoes for women. In 2005, Reef added a slipper with a bottle opener built into the bottom because, of course, that needs to be a thing.
In the late 2000s and early 2010s, Reef began incorporating much more sustainable and environmentally friendly materials and practices into their products. The company soon offered more Children’s shoes and also partner with all kinds of big organizations, such as Surfrider Better Beach Alliance and PFLAG for example. In other words, Reef has matured. And now, here in 2023, they’ve reached that state more than that. Because while you can still find a lot of great sandals at Reef, these days treating the company as a brand of sandals has sold them too short.
Today, Reef offers sandals, sandals, shoes, boots, etc. Sandals come in a wide variety, from classic leather sandals to flip-flops.artificial grass slippers (see below!). The brand’s line of women’s products is fully developed, including shoes, clogs, casual flip flops, stylish sandals, etc.
One thing that unites all kinds coral reef shoes offer today together? All of them are incredibly comfortable, from shoes that look great with khaki pants or a casual suit to the most comfortable breeches you can imagine, they all give a very comfortable feel. Great feel for your feet.
