It was another case of Ireland performing well but falling short this summer, having edged past India and New Zealand very closely earlier this season. Chasing with 212 runs, only two hitters, Lorcan Tucker (78) and George Dockrell (43) crossed the 20-run mark. Lack of support from other players meant that Ireland only got 190 runs in their 20 rounds, which is still a great effort.
On the other hand, South Africa continued its good run on the UK tour and this time, Reeza Hendricks (74) and a quick 56 shot from Aiden Markram pushed them to a total of 211 runs in their 20 laps.
With the ball, Tabraiz Shamsi continued his good work while Keshav Maharaj finished his saving nerve, conceding only 29 times (2 clearances) in his four passes.
The Proteas are keen to wrap up their UK tour while this is Ireland’s last chance to ensure they win across the board this summer.
