Nextstar’s new president, Michael Biard, joins from Fox – The Hollywood Reporter

Nextstar is revamping its top executives.
The local TV giant and CW owner has hired Michael Biard as its new president and COO, effective August 21. Biard succeeds Tom Carter, who will move into a senior advisory role.
“Michael is a talented, creative and deeply experienced communications executive who will be an excellent leader for Nexstar and the senior management team as we map out the future of the Company,” said Perry Sook, CEO of Nexstar, whom Biard will report to. “The Board and I are confident that his vision and judgment will be invaluable as we continue to maximize Nexstar shareholder return by further driving the growth of our brands and national audiences, enhancing the value of our spectrum through the additional rollout of ATSC 3.0, and strategically targeting aggressive mergers and acquisitions.”
Biard joined Nexstar from Fox Corp., where he served as president of distribution. His deal with Nextstar runs until 2027.
“Perry, Tom and Nexstar Nation have created a company of extraordinary size and unparalleled financial performance,” Biard said in a statement. “Nextstar’s strategic approach and disciplined execution will enable further growth and expansion, and I look forward to helping lead the way forward. I am grateful to Perry, Tom, and the Board of Directors for this opportunity, and I would like to express my deep gratitude to my colleagues and close friends at Fox, especially Lachlan Murdoch and John Nallen, for allowing me to pursue it.”
Nexstar has pushed hard in recent years, acquiring The Hill and The CW, and launching cable channel NewsNation in a nationwide bid.
Fox on Tuesday said it has promoted the company’s veteran David Espinosa as its new director of distribution. It’s an important role, with a significant portion of Fox’s cable distribution deals being renewed over the next year.
“We want to thank Mike for his meaningful contributions to Fox during his time with us and wish him continued success in his next chapter,” said Fox COO John Nallen. “David has been a key member of the Fox team for seventeen years, and we are confident that his leadership and strategic insight will result in a seamless transition for our distribution team and partners.”
