Jeff Garlin has joined the cast of Netflix I have never for its final season.
Garlin will play a man who attracts the interest of Devi’s grandmother (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan), Nirmala (Ranjita Chakravarty). It marks Garlin’s first series since he left ABC. Goldbergs a year ago after a personnel investigation. He’s still part of the team at HBO’s Curb your enthusiasmwhere he is also an executive producer.
Netflix and co-creators Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher announced in March that the fourth season of I have neverwhich follows an Indian-American teenager (Ramakrishnan) throughout her high school years, will be the last film.
Garlin starred on The Goldbergs for most of the first nine seasons. However, he left the Sony-produced comedy in December 2021 after an interview with Vanity Fair in which he admits that he was once the subject of an personnel investigation for alleged conduct on set that made the show’s staff uncomfortable: “There was an personnel investigation for me for the past three years,” he said at the time. “The human resources department came to me three years in a row because of my behavior on set.”
“[A]To a comedian, if someone was offended by what I said, all I can say is, I’m sorry. YES? I’ve never been to anyone, for whatever reason, so that I find it extremely confusing and untrue,” said Garlin Vanity Fair after listening to some Goldbergs the staff member felt demeaned and disrespected by his language and physical actions.
Garlin stopped appearing on Goldbergs at the end of the ninth season; the show writes about his absence and occasionally uses old footage of him in the final episodes of the season. He was wiped out at the beginning of season 10 when his character, patriarch Murray Goldberg, died offscreen.
Above I have never, he’ll play Len, a sweet man who fixes a bad sandwich and who makes Nirmala reconsider whether she’s really ending relationships for good. The final season is scheduled to air in 2023.
