Philadelphia 76ers Joel Embiid won his first NBA MVP this week. had tears, hugs from teammates and vintage Rolex watches of all time. We have Embiid’s teammate James Harden to thank for that final installment. The morning after the MVP award was announced, Harden appeared in the arena with a special watch for his newly anointed teammate: a Rolex Day-Date in rose gold.

The contents of the box, in Rolex’s signature green color, will be obvious to any watch enthusiast from the very first leap, and Embiid opens it with genuine glee:OH, my first Rolex,” he said. He then say GAMEby Malika Andrews it was his first watch, period.

The watch, listed for $41,500 on Rolex website, is the perfect piece to start a collection. The Day-Date was the first watch to write down the days of the week and is known for its association with prominent and powerful figures. The watch’s strap is now known as the President’s strap because it was a favorite of Lyndon B. Johnson’s.

To add to the gift, Harden also engraved the words “23 MVP” on the back. It’s amazing how Harden not only found a hard-to-find Rolex but was able to carve it in overnight. Either Harden has a great connection (not that it doesn’t happen) or he’s prepared for Embiid’s possible victory. But I like to imagine a third possibility: Harden, who seems to have more in common with Santa than a beard, has a drawer full of fine timepieces that he always keeps for gifts. at the last minute. (He famously gave a Richard Mille to Lil Baby, more.) The only mistake was that the watch seemed too small for Embiid’s wrist. “We will get you more links,” Harden tells him. Hopefully Embiid catches the bug from his new Day-Date and we just witnessed the birth of a new collector.

Patek Philippe Aquanaut by Tom Holland

Some people really have it all: front row seats in the Lakers-Warriors series, a Patek Aquanaut., and a British accent. The increasingly rare Aquanaut, one of two coveted sports models by watchmakers, is Holland’s favorite: He also owns one in rose gold. This version of Aquanaut embraces its rugged roots with khaki blue trim.

On the broadcast there is a very cute picture of Holland and Zendaya, who was wearing a Cartier Panthère. Couples gathered together stay together.

Hamilton happens to be in Miami ahead of this weekend’s F1 race in a never-before-seen version of IWC’s Big Pilot. We’ve seen Big Pilots with perpetual calendars—a complication that keeps track of the exact date and day up to the year 2100. We’ve also seen these Big Pilots in “Lake Tahoe” white ceramic. But never before have the two danced together like this. Hopefully this is Hamilton teasing an upcoming release and not a special piece just for him, like his all-black Big Pilot.

Buffalo Bills recipient Diggs hid his watch from photographers on the Met Gala red carpet but you can only keep a watch like this for so long. Inside the event, this all-black Audemars Piguet had its moment to shine. This is the reverse of Hamilton’s bright white IWC: the perpetual calendar in all-black ceramic. It was one of the hottest hits in the world when it was released in 2017, and the AP followed it up with versions in a blueberry color And Snow White.
