Chennai Super Kings (CSK) catcher Deepak Chahar praised captain MS Dhoni for keeping the team’s atmosphere and environment light, bringing out the full potential of the players and taking care of all age groups .
Chahar recalls a time when he first started setting up CSK and noticed how Dhoni made sure the young players on the team weren’t intimidated by star players and how he made sure everyone was comfortable. .
above Breakfast with the champion show, this is what chahar had to say about MS Dhoni’s people management:
“When I joined the CSK team, I noticed that at the team dinner, everyone sat at two or three tables. One is taken by seniors, foreign players have the other and then juniors. New players often shy away from speaking. Mahi bhai will always sit with juniors. That has been fixed.”
Chahar also spoke about the lack of pressure on the Chennai management on the players and added:
“The atmosphere is different. Like, everything is optional here. No one will say anything to you. No one will say ‘you go to the gym or you go to the gym’. You are a professional cricketer. It’s your responsibility to see what’s best for you. You can practice if you want. Either do it tomorrow or do nothing. You can rest if you want. However, you will have to perform on the ground. Everyone knows that. No one will blame you even if you lose the match. Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) also said nothing. There’s no pressure on anyone.”
Deepak Chahar on the importance of financial security for players
Deepak Chahar thinks IPL contracts have helped instill in Indian cricketers bravery even when they are new to international cricket. He feels that because these players are financially secure, they can go to the biggest stage and perform without much pressure.
Regarding this, Chahar said:
“Also, you don’t have a financial crisis. Nowadays, young players don’t have any financial crisis before playing for India. They have been paid well in IPL. That’s why at How could players like Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar (Yadav) hit six on the first ball in international cricket. Otherwise, no one would dare hit six on the first ball. ‘a ball is nothing, I have talent, I can make money’.
Chahar picked 12 catches in 9 games for CSK in the 2023 IPL season and will be one of their key players in the final against the Gujarat Titans on Sunday, May 28.
