Maharashtra: Two injured in collision between passenger, goods trains in Gondia | Nagpur News


NAGPUR: At least two passengers were injured when a Bhagat Ki Kothi SF Express train running from Bilaspur crashed into a stationary freight train in the Gondia district of Maharashtra at dawn on Wednesday.
According to sources, the driver of the passenger train appeared to have misfired the signal and crashed into the freight train.
Preliminary reports indicate that the accident happened at around 1 a.m. near Dugma station.
Saket Rajan, CPRO (SECR), said that the accident happened between Gudma and Gondia railway stations.
“No casualties have been reported,” he said, adding that several passengers from one boogie suffered minor injuries.
However, unconfirmed sources said that at least 50 passengers were injured.
A wheel of carriage S3 of train number 20843, traveling from Bilaspur, derailed between Gudma and Gondia.
Immediately after receiving the information, the relief train and division officers including DRM Manindersingh Uppal arrived at the scene of the incident.
The injured passengers were taken to the KTS Hospital in Gondia.
“The engineering team also repositioned the train and it even reached Gondia station. At around 8 a.m., the train departs to continue its journey further,” said Rajan.
An investigation has also been ordered to probe the incident.
