‘Kappan to be released only after bail in PMLA case’ | India News


LUCKY: Kerala-based journalist Siddique Kappanarrested two years before going to Hathras in Uttar Pradesh to cover up the assault and murder of a Dalit girl, will only be released after he is released on bail. PMLA The Lucknow Prison Authority said the case was filed by the Department of Enforcement (ED) on Monday.
Kappan was arrested by UP police along with three others – Athikurrehman, Alam and Masood – on October 5, 2020 according to different sections of the IPC, UAPA and the IT Act.
Supplementary Session Judge (ASJ) Anurodh Mishra directed Kappan to provide two bails of Rs 1 lakh each and a personal bond of the same amount. ASJ also seeks a commitment from Kappan that he will not violate the conditions set forth by SC.
Lucknow Jail senior director Ashish Tiwari said, “Siddique has yet to be released on bail in the pending PMLA case against him. So far, he has been released on bail in other cases. Once he is released on ED bail, he will be released,” Tiwari said.
ED filed a prosecution complaint on February 6, 2021 against Atikurrehman, Masood Ahmed, Siddiqui Kappan. Siddiqui Kappan allegedly transferred funds to Atikurrehman’s bank account; Mohammed Alam was traveling to Hathras in a car purchased under the name Masood. Fifteen days before the Hathras visit, the car was purchased for Rs 25 lakh, ED said.
