Journalist, Hollywood Personality Broadcaster Honorary – The Hollywood Reporter

Oprah, Bob Iger, Alyssa Milano and Lynda Carter are friends, journalists and Hollywood personalities in memory of Barbara Walters, who passed away Friday night at the age of 93.

Legendary TV journalist is the first female co-host of Today program, the first female evening news anchor, and co-creator and co-host of View mode. She died at her home in New York.

Oprah wrote on social media: “Without Barbara Walters there would be no me — nor any other woman you see on the evening, morning and daily news. “She is truly a Pioneer. I did my first TV audition with her in mind the whole time.

Disney CEO Bob Iger shared a message on social media honoring the broadcasting legend, saying, “Barbara is a true legend, a pioneer not only for women in journalism but and for the media itself. She is a one-of-a-kind reporter who has conducted many of the most important interviews of our time, from heads of state to the biggest celebrities and sports icons. I have been honored to call Barbara a colleague for more than three decades, but more importantly, I can call her a close friend. All of us at The Walt Disney Company will miss her dearly, and our deepest condolences go out to her daughter, Jacqueline.”

Actress Alyssa Milano took to Twitter to pay tribute to the iconic journalist, writing: ‘Rest in peace, Barbara Walters. Thank you for helping me find my voice.”

Actress Lynda Carter tweeted, honoring Walters: “Barbara Walters is an American institution. “As the first female national broadcaster, she opened up endless opportunities for so many girls who wanted to work in television, myself included. Her impact cannot be overstated. I will miss you, Barbara. Thank you for everything.”

David Muir, anchor of ABC World News Tonight, shared a tribute to Walters, saying, “So we often revolve around the words iconic, legendary, pioneer – but Barbara Walters is all of these. And perhaps, most of all, Barbara Walters was brave. She paved the way for so many people – we learned from her – and still respect her to this day. THEN, Barbara.

“Barbara Walters is a true pioneer,” said Robin Roberts, host of ABC Good Morning America, wrote on Twitter. “Forever grateful for her outstanding example and friendship. My condolences to her daughter and her family.”
