John Wick 4 director is choosing between these video game movies next
With John Wick: Chapter 4 dominated the box office, this week’s general cultural conversation has largely turned to a single question: “Is John Wick dead?” The film deliberately fails to answer that question, with screenwriters Michael Finch and Shay Hatten telling Polygon that viewers want interpret John Wick 4end the way they want.
Lionsgate Release Studio has launched John Wick: Chapter 5 However, the production was green-lit and Lionsgate Film Corporation President Joe Drake said recently the studio “isn’t ready to say goodbye to Keanu with this series yet.” With its success, there will likely be a John Wick 5But Directed by Chad Stahelski told Polygon that he’s not ready to commit to it as his next project — and in fact, he hasn’t confirmed what his next project will be.
Stahelski currently has a whopping 11 different projects listed on IMDb.com as “in development” or “in pre-production.” Adfor example, is a horror movie built around a treasure trove of secret relics like the one seen at the end of Steven Spielberg Raiders of the Lost Ark. New Line Cinema won an auction for that film in 2021, with Stahelski directly producing and directing under him. Entertainment 87Eleven flag. He also signed a contract with a drama called Town, produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and envisioned as an ’80s heist thriller set in Miami in the wake of the Iran-Contra scandal. (It is not affiliated with Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.) And then there’s the planned reboot of the Highlander movie franchise, billed as starring former Superman Henry Cavill.
However, what is Stahelski most actively working on at the moment? None of the above, he told Polygon — he was still descending from John Wick 4 and wait to see which of his planned projects actually come together.
“Hollywood has this magic algorithm — the availability of the cast, the availability of me, the availability of the crew,” he said. “Is the script ready? Is the budget set? Do we have a location? Have all of these come in [moving a project into production]. That’s why you read it so many times, about directors [having several movies in progress]. It’s not like we have five choices ready to make. A lot has to be put into making a movie — you’d be surprised how much.”
However, he has some preferences about what he would like to see put on the priority list. “I can tell you things [on my docket] I love the most,” he said. “I am very proud to be associated with by Michael B. Jordan rainbow six. I couldn’t be happier about Tsushima’s Ghost, it’s one of my favorite properties on the list so far — an opportunity to do the Ridley Scott gladiator version of a samurai movie, with the aesthetics and looks I wanted to do. To build that world would be quite impressive.
“Of course, we are still attached to the Highlander world. And with Netflix, we have Black Samurai, this is a great sci-fi series we’ve been trying to make. And those are the top things on my list.”
Stahelski said part of the reason he hasn’t started working on his next movie or show is that he wants to stick with one project at a time. “Honestly, I’ve always been very, very focused,” he said. “I wish I was more of a multitasker. I’m not like other directors who have 10 things going on. i tried to get John Wick: Chapter 4 out the door, do the best job you can with it, and then remove the psychological and intellectual palette. And then we’ll jump in.”
That said, with John Wick 4 at the cinemas, he hopes to work on one of these projects soon. “My team worked on all of these at the same time. Now with Heart out on the street, I can focus, and I’ll see which one I can go. I mean, I love working. I want to be photographed this year. So it would be which one I can go in the right direction first.
