Jim Irsay categorically denies the idea that the Colts are riding tanks

It looks like Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay is trying to get in on the action this season. If he didn’t join his team, he certainly wouldn’t be actively trying to win any more games.

Don’t say that to Irsay, though, because according to a new report from The Athletic, “tank” isn’t in the Irsay or Colts vernacular.

Bob Kravitz’s The Athletic is reporting that Irsay called him shortly after he fired Frank Reich and hired Jeff Saturday as an interim coach. From the outside looking in, it looks like Irsay is doing all he can to increase the pick as high as he can in the next NFL draft, knowing this season has ended with a 3-5 team. his -1.

That’s what it looks like from the outside, but Irsay doesn’t prescribe that plot.

“It’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard, that we’re sinking,” Irsay told Kravitz. “Those are bulls —. We are in this; 9-7-1 put us in, no question about it. … We did not destroy the season. Whoever says these things, that we don’t play Matt because (attempts to get ahead), those are bulls —. Measure is not true. … We will do what it takes to win. I don’t know who people think we are, they don’t know us. We don’t raise in Indianapolis. “

That’s a cool thing from Irsay, and that’s awesome.

The Colts branched out into future Hall of Famer Matt Ryan in place of second-year Sam Ehlinger burgers. Yes, Ryan hasn’t played very well this season, but doesn’t his experience give Indy a better chance of winning than five games in Ehlinger’s career?

And sure enough, Frank Reich was fired after leading 40-33-1 for four and a half seasons. That makes sense.

What doesn’t make sense is to replace Reich with a guy from Jeff Saturday who has absolutely no coaching experience.

How does Saturday lead the Colts to the knockout stages, let alone a single win? When he plays for Indy this Sunday as interim coach, it will not only be his first game as an NFL head coach, but also his first. of him as an NFL coach.

Saturday has no coaching experience at the NFL or college levels. Was he head coach at Hebron Christian Academy in Dacula, Georgia, from 2017-2019, but from sideline high school to the NFL?

Saturday is a Hall of Fame player, but even Tom Brady will struggle with that kind of transition.

What will Irsay do if he doesn’t smash this thing?

We all don’t trust him to that extent, but it doesn’t look like anyone at this point.

His words do not match his actions. He says he wants to compete, but everything he’s been doing lately says the tank is rolling in Indianapolis.
