Ľudovit Klein is one of two UFC fighters born in Slovakia.
Slovakia is a European country with a population of about 5.4 million people. Out of the millions, two are currently fighting in the UFC – Klein at lightweight and Martin Buday at heavyweight. Neither boxer was ranked, but they continued to participate in recreational fights.
After earning his UFC contract on Dana White’s Contenders Series, Buday made his commercial debut in April 2022. He beat Chris Barnett by a technical decision due to an illegal elbow, ending the bout early. Four months later, the ‘Badys’ won their second bout under the UFC banner by knocking out Lukasz Brzeski with a split decision. The 31-year-old heavyweight will make his third appearance in the Octagon against Jake Collier on April 29.
Meanwhile, Klein became the first Slovak born UFC boxer when he debuted in September 2020. ‘Mr.Highlight’ quickly made a name for himself by knocking out Shane Young by knockout in the first round. After beating Young, the 28-year-old went on to ski two matches, losing to Mike Trizano and Nate Landwehr.
Klein recovered from consecutive losses with a decisive victory over Devonte Smith. Four months later, ‘Mr.Highlight’ won a nasty win over Mason Jones to continue building momentum. The Slovakian-born boxer had hoped to prolong the winning streak on March 18, but things did not go as planned.

udovit Klein sixth appearance on Octagon on UFC 286 preliminary card. The 28-year-old is up against Jai Herbert, who is about to win over Kyle Nelson. Klein versus Herbert had some back-and-forth exchanges, but the results were altered due to a point deduction in the third round due to a low hit from ‘The Black Country Banger’.
If Herbert had not been penalized, he would have been awarded a decisive unanimous victory. The match was scored with a majority draw with the scoreboard scoring 29-28 and 28-28 x2. ‘The Black Country Banger’ was disappointed not to be able to win in front of its England fans.
