TAKE CARE OF: Shikhar Dhawan may have been demoted to vice captain after KL RahulLate integration but the team’s most senior player is always ready to help young players who are looking for him.
Dhawan was destined to lead the team in a three-match series of ODIs but now that he’s going to carry out his duties as a lieutenant, he’s ready to put his best effort forward.
“I would love to share my experience with the young players in the team. I first came here in 2014 (actually 2013), when Duncan Fletcher was the coach of the Indian team. If they (the young players) contact me for any offers, I’m always there to answer them,” Dhawan told reporters at a media conference.

The 36-year-old Nampaw is quite happy that captain Rahul will get much-needed game time ahead of the important Asian Cup.
“It is good news that KL (Rahul) is back and will also lead the team. He is one of the main players of this Indian team. It will be a good outing for him before The Asian Cup is on. I’m sure he will gain a lot from this tour,” said Dhawan.
Multi-talented person Washington Sundar who is the starter definitely against Zimbabwe was disqualified after he injured his left shoulder in the Royal London One Day Cup.
The 22-year-old Chennai last played for India in the West Indies series in February 2021.
“It’s sad that Washington has to be absent. He’s a pretty important player for the team. But that’s part and all… injuries happen. Hopefully, he’ll recover soon. While India are back in the southern African nation for the first time since 2016 and haven’t played much against them in the past few years, Dhawan thinks they shouldn’t take down Zimbabwe, especially after their recent win over Bangladesh .
“They won Bangladesh. They are playing good cricket. It’s good for us and we can’t take it for granted. It’s about the process.
“No matter what team we are facing, we always make sure that we do everything right so that in the end we get the right result. That will again be our focus. as a team,” Dhawan said.
Dhawan praises Zimbabwe’s senior batting Sikandar Raza and says that Indian archers will have to intelligently confront the trailblazer to stop him at the opportune moment.
“He’s a very good player. He’s been playing for Zimbabwe for a long time. He’s a quality player. I’m sure our players will come up with good plans to fight back. back to him,” he said.
Dhawan went on to add that the series against Zimbabwe will be important for some of the young players in the team like Shubman GillAvesh Khan, Ishan Kishan, and the exposure they are receiving will be extremely beneficial to them in the coming days.
