India agriculture index: Niti Aayog is preparing index for agriculture transformation now

A senior government official told ET that the Agricultural Transformation Index is capable of measuring countries’ performance across seven pillars – inputs, sustainability, productivity and diversification, policy , preservation, processing and export, income and welfare of farmers.
“The index aims to capture the new policy model in agriculture, the core of which is sustainable crop diversification, productivity improvement and farmers’ income increase,” said the official, who asked not to be named.

With the help of various stakeholder ministries, Aayog has developed more than half a dozen indicators, including the health, education and water sustainability index, to rank countries annually based on data. measurable number. In 2018, the government accepted the committee’s proposals to double farmers’ income, after which an empowered committee was established to review and monitor progress.
The Council recommended seven sources of income for farmers, including improved crop yields, improved livestock productivity, and resource efficiency.
