How to hold a wedding in the garden

Congratulations, you’re getting married! Now that the ring is on your finger, it’s time for the intrepid planning to begin. If a garden wedding is on your radar, here’s a checklist to make sure it goes smoothly.

Guaranteed a beautiful lawn

Maintaining a healthy lawn is hard work. One week there is not enough rain and the sun is dry, the next time it rains too much and is flooded and muddy. If you want to ensure a green walkway under your feet then consider placing some luxurious looking artificial grass. There are ways to incorporate it for a temporary feature like glue and using decorative potted plants as weights. But you may find you like the look so much that you decide to keep it!

Weatherproof your garden

Praying to the weather gods for clear skies won’t help either. They are known to be daring and the more you look forward to a sunny day, the less that feels. Prepare for any eventuality with a hand grip. Even if it’s raining or hot, you’ll have a stylish hideaway for your guests to enjoy the festivities.

Do’s and Don’ts when designing flowers

Kathleen O’Brien is Flower Dayz’s floral designer and stylist, providing her clients with creative and floral event spaces for every occasion. Here are her top tips for flowers in your garden wedding:

“- When planning your garden wedding flowers, look at the flowers that are in season before so they can better withstand the weather.
– Make sure your flowers stay in the water for as long as possible
– The flowers attached to the pine tree need to be made from oasis flower arrangement foam
– If it’s hot, your florist will need to have a spray bottle on hand.
– Don’t leave anything to chance. Your flowers will die very quickly if left unattended!
– Consider a native flower as they can be quite resistant to outdoor conditions”

Timing is everything

How gorgeous does your wedding look at sunset? Elise Hughan from Easy Weddings has seen couples fall into this trap before but she has a way to make it work.

“There are a lot of different tips for planning a garden wedding, but the one that we find that couples don’t always take into account is gentle. Late afternoon or evening shadows can wreak havoc on your wedding photos, and showering in floodlights is even worse. Instead, consider adding fairy lights or lanterns with well-placed citronella candles to cast shadows, create cozy lighting, and deter unwanted insects. “

Rent is your friend

Scott Koch, director of Event Rentals, is very familiar with outdoor weddings. Here’s his advice for a smooth outdoor ceremony:

“You’re getting married; Congratulations! Let me guess, you want an outdoor ceremony. Here are a few simple tips.

When planning outdoor activities, your best friend or foe is Mother Nature. For hot days, place an ice bath with cold water and cloth, and if possible near some shaded areas for guests who are more sensitive to the sun. Also, make sure you’re happy with your wet weather plan, and call early enough for providers to deliver and set up. No one likes being left in the rain.

Your day will be relaxing and flowing with ease. Don’t stress, enjoy it! “

Provide amenities for guests

If you’re having a home wedding, you may not have enough bathrooms to go around. And if you’re storing it in a public space, they may not have a toilet nearby. Double check to ensure that all guest needs are met from spacious bathrooms to nearby parking, ample seating and sunscreen on a warm day.

Party all night

Garden parties are a luxury affair but every wedding needs some great music to elevate the celebration. Organizing your reception outdoors can be difficult because the music wafts into the atmosphere rather than being contained and amplified by the walls of the room. Having a designated, covered dance floor can help focus your tunes. Consult your band or DJ on how they typically handle outdoor gigs and learn about any restrictions on late-night partying from the local council where you’ll be hosting. .

There’s still a lot of work to be done before you can set foot down the aisle, so plan! We hope you have a magical wedding, no matter what venue or style you choose.
