Before Sejal Patel was the CEO and co-founder of an original, scientifically tested line of clean skin care products, she was a mother. “My daughter was diagnosed with mosaicism – a genetic condition in which the skin cells’ production of melanin is compromised, leading to significant hyperpigmentation – so I set out to research how to care for them. skin is safe and effective for children to use,” said the biotech startup’s pharmacist. Orlando, Florida mother of two, whose displeasure with what’s out there has led her to create her own amazing recipes. “I created Plantkos to address skin problems such as redness, dark spots and dryness that are very common among people with melanin-rich skin and, of course, all skin types.”

Her interest began early. “Growing up, I don’t see skin care targeting those issues without causing other problems,” says Patel. “When I use a product to help my dry skin, I get breakouts, and then the breakouts lead to scars and blemishes.”

She also doesn’t see models in beauty ads like her. “It makes me think that no product is made for my skin,” she says. Her solution — for herself, her daughter, and everyone else — is an amazing line of treatments for all skin types and shades that match strength. Clean active ingredients like niacinamide, panthenol and salicylic acid with prized Ayurvedic herbs she grew up using, like bakuchiol, a natural retinol alternative; antioxidant technology; and gives energy to the schisandra berries.

Like any parent, Patel finds her mornings very busy. “My routine is to keep everyone on schedule and prepare the whole family for a productive and successful day,” she says. Part of that success is down to providing moisture to her skin and hair and five minutes of never-easiest-ever-all-star makeup.

6:30 am: I hit snooze a few times, then said my morning spell while I was still in bed. My grandfather passed this habit on to me when I was six years old, and it has been a habit ever since.

6:45 am: I start my day with a glass of warm lemon water. While we sleep, our organs are detoxifying the body, and lemon water not only helps to replenish the water lost overnight, but also helps flush everything out. While sipping that, I get my coffee in a French press — I always add a scoop of collagen Vital Proteins. After that first coffee tasting, I was ready to roll.

7 am: On school days, I wake the kids up and prepare breakfast and lunch for them. When they go to school, I exercise—usually a combination of yoga, endurance training, and outdoor running, using the Peloton app.

9 am: I put myself together for the day. In the mornings when I wash my hair — I try not to wash it more than twice a week — I work in Sahajan’s Hair Conditioner while my hair is still dry. The blend of nourishing oils feels like heaven and leaves the best shine.

I dab a little bit of our eye cream—it’s super lightweight and absorbent, perfect under makeup or on its own—and then massage in our face cream. It contains ingredients like niacinamide, bakuchiol, soothing gotu kola, ashwagandha, and turmeric, and it instantly leaves you looking energized.
