Our family loves feta cheese with Greek meatballs skewers and in this strawberry salad (my favorite!). But I’ve never had feta alone before. This grilled feta recipe was inspired by my trip to Greece and is perfect for a dip or stir-fry.

In 2021 I was able to take a trip to Greece and while the Mediterranean setting is amazing, the food is even better! Feta is a staple there and you can find it served in just about anything, but they also serve it alone. This is my first time eating grilled or grilled feta and it is delicious! The Greeks also put oregano on everything and a whole bag of dried oregano costs just two Euros.

Just a quick tip: I prefer to use sheep’s milk Feta instead of cow’s milk because it’s more creamy. You can find it in the specialty cheese section at your local grocery store. But if not, then regular cow’s milk feta can still be used.

Grilled Feta Option

I’ve kept this grilled feta recipe simple so the flavor of the cheese can really shine. However, if you want, you can add some extra ingredients for a slightly different taste. Garnish the toasted feta with some red or black pepper if desired for a bit of extra zest. You can also add some fresh basil or fresh thyme along with the oregano leaves. Fresh herbs always dominate my book. Along with the tomatoes, you can also add some red onion or a few cloves of garlic.

How to Eat Greek Feta

While this grilled feta cheese is an easy starter, it also goes well with other dishes. Rub it on top of zucchini for a side dish. Or you can toss it into a Greek salad with some kalamata olives and some extra virgin olive oil.

A lot of recipes call for serving this with crusty bread or baguettes, but it’s equally delicious with grain-free and gluten-free options. Sliced ​​cucumbers make a great French fries or we’ll sometimes eat it with seedless crackers.

You can even turn leftovers into some toasted feta pasta. Some gluten-free pasta with crushed feta, basil leaves and some sauce would be delicious. We also love topping it with some veggies and eggs for a quick breakfast.

However you decide to eat it, this grilled feta is simple, easy, and a family favorite!

  • 8 oz feta khối block (preferably sheep’s milk feta)
  • first Cup cherry tomatoes or grape tomatoes
  • first teaspoon dried oregano

Guide

  • Preheat oven to 400°F.

  • Place feta in the center of a small oven-safe baking dish.

  • Arrange the tomatoes around the outside of the feta and sprinkle with dried oregano leaves on top.

  • Pour olive oil over everything.

  • Place the plate in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes until the tomatoes wilt and the feta turns light brown. Feta is not melty like other cheeses.

  • Remove from oven and serve with pita fries, seedless fries, pita bread, or fresh veggies.

Note

Leftovers are great with scrambled eggs for breakfast.
