Three months after launch, fifa 23 Fans noticed the commentary featured some interesting Easter eggs, from Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenny, the famous owners of Wrexham AFC.
Wrexham could be third oldest professional football team around the world, but in real life they play in the English National Football League, which is five places below the top leagues in the Premier League.
Reynolds’ and McElhenney acquired Wrexham in February 2021 and that has made the club a go-to source for 2022 material. Welcome to Wrexhampremiered on FX in August. FIFA 22 (game in 2021) including Wrexham AFC in the “Rest of the World” herd as a nod to popular culture’s greater interest in the smaller side. Typically, EA Sports’ top soccer franchise doesn’t include any out-of- league (i.e. not fully professional) clubs.
fifa 23 brought the Dragon back – apparently along with some in-store commentary from Reynolds and McElhenny. During the holidays, fans are starting to notice that if you play Wrexham against Liverpool (any mode, any venue) you’ll have Ryan & Rob in the booth with a pitch, pitch intro shadow. Let’s wander:
We can only assume that nobody noticed this because a) no one was interested in the match between Wales’ No. 1 star (65 attacking, 62 midfielders, 62 defending) Wrexham against the team. 5 stars (84-82-85) of the Merseyside Red Devils. Someone else over the weekend noticed that if Wrexham were to play Stockport County — a Wrexham rival promoted to EFL’s League Two — then R&R would show up with this cleaner:
We reached out to EA Sports to ask if fans can expect additional commentary easter eggs from Rob McElhenny and Ryan Reynolds, but we didn’t hear back this afternoon. Keep plugging, kids. We suspect that they have this talkative pair in the booth in just two lines.
