On Wednesday (September 14), Barcelona officially confirmed that they have signed a new four-year contract. The star’s new contract runs until June 2026 and has a release clause worth 1 billion euros, the highest in football history. Teammates Pedri and Ansu Fati’s new contracts also include a €1 billion release clause.
The day after it was officially confirmed, Barcelona held a special signing ceremony for Gavi at Camp Nou, where fans could come and meet the rapidly flourishing midfielder. As noted by Sport, a female fan attended the ceremony and approached Gavi to get her signature Barca flag. Once Gavi finished signing her flag, she proceeded to hand him a small piece of paper, presumably her phone number.
Gavi hesitated for a second but then accepted the offer before taking a picture with her. Clips of the interaction between Gavi and the mystery girl have since gone viral on social media, with many fans praising her for shooting her dead. The midfielder has not had any known romantic relationships. It will be interesting if his condition changes after Thursday’s incident.
Gavi, who made his Barcelona debut in a 2-1 La Liga win over Getafe in August 2021, has represented the Blaugrana 53 times across competitions to date. He has two goals and six assists. Gavi also has 10 caps for Spain (1 goal).
Barcelona ace Gavi revisits special memories ahead of Saturday’s clash with Elche
On the eve of the upcoming Barca La Liga Against Elche (September 17), Gavi looked back on a special day, the day he scored his first Blaugrana goal.
Coincidentally, it comes down to the team he will face this weekend, with his 19th-minute strike helping the Catalans win 3-2 at Camp Nou. Reviewing last year’s performance (December 17, 2021) against Elche, Gavi said (via Barca Blaugranes):
“I remember the game last season against Elche very much. I have fulfilled one of my dreams since I arrived, celebrating scoring a goal with the fans of the best club in the world. I will never forget that day.”
