David CronenbergBrandon’s son (owner) took Sundance by storm with this horror satire, which I’ve heard many describe as “the best season of White Lotus Not yet.”
From our review:
Cronenberg’s script for infinity pool filled with dark, wry jokes, many of which are hilariously funny. (From the very beginning, Gabi has stated that she is an actress who “naturally fails” in commercials.) There are a lot of oddities in this movie and they all serve a purpose; even the Leatherface-esque masks seen in the trailer have a dual function, enhancing the sense of personalization and evoking the commoditization of indigenous cultures. The only problem with the plot is that its climax is inevitable from the moment it’s all revealed. But, to be fair, the film is adorned with so many slick, violent decorations that an overly complicated narrative structure would make infinity pool difficult to track. Yes, the point is clear: An endless tornado of bottomless entitlement is the ugliest thing an American (or any other nationality) can become.

Our word review:
The Demon of Death Rises is a movie made by sick people for sick people. It’s a great update to the iconic series, brimming with humor but giving Álvarez a taste for disgust and annoyance. The refreshing change of scenery and cast, plus Sutherland’s groundbreaking performance, show that this zombie series still has a lot of life and fighting in it.
At 97 vivid minutes, it feels like it’s over almost as soon as it starts. It’s a perfect intro for new audiences who’ve never seen an Evil Dead movie, but for long-time fans, it breathes new life into a classic, mixed horror comedy franchise. mixes Raimi’s old-school approach with a new school of gruesome horror. It proves that there is still a lot to color within the old confines.
