Boxing finally got it right.

It was announced that Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford have agree to the terms to fight for the undisputed Welterweight title in early November. This fight is more than a few years in the making, but it looks like it’s going to happen soon.

Crawford has left Top Rated, leaving behind promoter Bob Arum’s patronage last November. Less than a year later, we got the news that the super big fight boxing fans who were foaming at the mouth had finally happened. Even though it was just an oral agreement, this felt like it was real.

For too long, it’s been a blame game for why the fight isn’t happening. Arum blamed Al Haymon (Top Boxing Champion) for not allowing the fight to take place, and Crawford accused Anyway, I don’t want to fight him. But many boxing analysts felt that Arum was holding up What will be the biggest money-making fight in boxing for quite some time.

With so many sanctioning bodies in the sport, it’s surprising that we see any major games brought to the ring. The days of top boxers just dancing in the ring without any problems in boxing are far behind us. Heaven and earth need to be touching to get some of these top boys on board. And a lot of the time, it has nothing to do with the people fighting. This is what they chose to do for a living. Most boxers want the best competitive fighting. But overall, if the dollar doesn’t make sense for the promoters, the fans end up with the short end of the stick.

Other times it takes so long to get two boxers in the ring that by the time we do, one or both guys are over the hill and way past their prime. Dana White might be crude in how he runs UFC by not paying his fighters their true worth, but he usually gets the fight fans want to see in the ring.

If there are two top-flight UFC fighters in any division (male or female), odds are they’ll meet at some point. Usually, that point is sooner rather than later. UFC has one guy running the show, and the buck stops with Dana White. He’s taken Vince McMahon’s model and perfected it.

Now we play the waiting game while Spence and Crawford’s respective sides look over the paperwork. So, I’m reserving my overall excitement until it’s officially official. Again, this is boxing, and at any point, either side could decide to pull out before they’re in too deep. This could be the fight of the year if it happens.

Boxing fans deserve a reward for their loyalty to a sport that’s never been above crapping on their wishes. So, I’m rooting for the boxing fans more than anything when it comes to Spence and Crawford battling to stay undefeated.

Fans of pugilism will also get a process this weekend with Canelo Alvarez compared to Gennady Golovkin III. This match will take place Saturday night from the T-Mobile Center in Las Vegas. Even though GGG is 40 years old and past his prime, he’s still a top middleweight contender and should let Alvarez make his money.

The world of boxing will surprise you many times over, but its key stakeholders need to give fans the fights they crave more often.
