Displace announced at CES what it calls “the world’s first wireless TV,” with the first models shipping in December 2023.
The Displace TV model is 55 inches and runs on a battery that Displace claims has a long life (about a month if you use the TV six hours a day) and is replaceable. The TV does not need a wall mount because it has its own suction pump mounted on the back. This allows playback on almost any surface, such as a window. The TV doesn’t have a remote, relying instead on gesture controls that the TV reads through the camera at the top. You can also control the TV with your voice or by touching the screen.
It transmits content to the TV from a hidden processing box. It can run multiple TVs of the same box, transfer content from one TV to another when you change rooms, or combine multiple TVs into one big screen. One TV costs $3,000, with a two-pack retailing for $5,400 and a four-pack for $9,000. You can reserve a copy today for ten percent of the total price. However, only a total of 100 models are available for pre-order, with a promised delivery date of December 2023.
LG also announced wireless TV at CES, works through a similar system, though it comes with 97-inch, 83-inch, and 77-inch models. Pricing and other details are yet to be revealed.
