Dave Bautista on why he’s relieved to say goodbye to Drax from Guardians Of The Galaxy

Actor Dave Bautista will end his role as Drax in the next Guardians of the Galaxy movie. He’s played the role for nine years in six recent Guardians of the Galaxy films and holiday specials. Talk to GQBautista said he’s “very grateful to Drax,” but is willing to give up.
“I love him,” he said. “But there’s a relief [that it’s over]. It is not all pleasant. It’s hard to play that role. The makeup process blew me away. And I just didn’t know if I wanted Drax to be my legacy – it was a silly performance and I wanted to do something more dramatic.”
Speaking of the dramatic work, Rian Johnson – who directed Bautista in Glass Onion – was quoted in the story as saying that it was only a matter of time before Bautista took on a more serious and dramatic role.
“I keep telling all my film buddies that someone is going to give Dave a really impressive lead role in a movie and they’re going to look like a genius,” Johnson said.
Also in the interview, Bautista recalled the time when he learned he had been cast as Drax many years ago. Bautista is driving his car to the gym. “I had to pull over because I cried so much,” he said. “I turned right around and walked into the house trembling to tell my wife I got the role, and we both stood there in awe.”
Fans will see Bautista as Drax one last time in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in May 2023. In addition to the Marvel series, Bautista is lobbied for Netflix to cast him as Marcus Fenix in the movie Gears of War.
