Dapper Dan Talks Puma Collection, Logomania, June Ambrose

Dapper Dan is one of the most legendary names in fashion, and the renowned designer has continued to innovate and stay inspired for more than four decades in his career. He revolutionized fashion in the 80s and 90s and pioneered the field of fashion logomania, but the Harlem style icon is still making a new breakthrough. His latest venture is a cooperation with Pumawill release on October 29 on Kith.com and at Kith stores globally, following its initial launch at the label. New York Fashion Week in September.

“Beyond the fun, Puma has a lot of history with my community,” Dapper Dan recently told POPSUGAR over a Zoom call. “For me, being able to do that comes from a fashion standpoint, which adds a lot of texture to the culture.”
The designer describes the four-piece capsule collection, featuring a specially designed logo, as “luxury meets relaxation” combined with ferocious energy. “I come from an active community. I’m always attacking established, iconic ideas and brands, so I told them Puma [logo] will have to be aggressive, in attack mode,” he said.
Dapper Dan also wanted to navigate activewear essentials like hoodies, unjustly criminalized. “When you look at the sport and the sport as a whole, and elevate it, it gives it a more classy and upscale feel and removes a lot of the stigma associated with it,” he said. ” he said. “That’s why when I wear sportswear, I like to wear it with a scarf or silk scarf to show everyone… This could be upstairs too.”
