China sanctions seven top Taiwanese officials after 2nd US Congressional delegation’s visit to Taipei

China announced sanctions against seven Taiwanese government officials and politicians, saying it pushed a pro-independence agenda for the breakaway island.
The Taiwan Affairs Office of the ruling Communist Party of China on Tuesday said those sanctioned and their family members would not be allowed entry into mainland China, Hong Kong or Macau. They will not be allowed to do business with mainland China.
“Associated companies and their financial sponsors will not be allowed to profit from the mainland,” an office spokesman was quoted as saying by Xinhua.
The Taiwan office will take other necessary measures and those sanctioned will be “responsible for life”, the spokesman said.

Others include Wang Ting-yu, a lawmaker who sits on the foreign and defense relations committee, Wellington Koo, secretary general of the island’s national security council, Tsai Chi-chang, deputy deputy minister spokesman for the Taiwanese legislature, and Lin Fei-fan, deputy secretary-general of the DPP.
The sanctioned non-DPP member is Chen Jiau-hua, a lawmaker and chairman of the New Power Party, the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post reported.
In December last year, China announced sanctions against Taiwan’s prime minister Su Tseng-chang, Taiwan’s legislature chairman You Si-kun and Taiwan’s foreign minister Joseph Wu.
Businesses associated with them, as well as their sponsors, are prohibited from engaging in profit-making activities on land. Other sanctions will also be implemented. The spokesperson said they would be legally responsible for life.
