Captain.tv, an indie game developer specializing in games for streamers to play with their audiences, has announced a new racing game: Nitro. The developer is working with streaming company Loaded and top creators like Ludwig, Quarter Jade and NorthernLion to design, test, and promote the upcoming title.
Nitro is designed to draw each streamer’s audience into the driver’s seat. This free-to-play title allows streamers to host races while viewers can use simple chat commands to control their drivers. Collaborative streamers and their communities will provide valuable feedback to Captain.tv during Nitro’s alpha phase.
Built for vehicles
Live streams benefit from interactivity; That’s a big advantage of this format over on-demand content. Twitch playing Pokémon was a hugely successful early example of stream-gaming chat. Now, developers like Captain.tv are building games designed around streamer interactivity.
“Our focus at Captain.tv is to build games specifically for streamers and their communities to play together, and at the same time,” said Bradley Ross, CEO of Captain.tv. help streamers achieve their goals around community building.
Before Nitro, Captain.tv .’s previous title Streaming Raiders was a huge hit with the creator. The title features streamers leading their armies of viewers into battle. Short rounds of one to three minutes allow streamers to ‘play’ the game during the break. Over 40,000 streamers have played Stream Raiders, which has generated over $4 million in revenue for their partnered streamers.
streamer led
Nitro represents the next step for the streamer-led game genre. Partnerships with Loaded and creators like Ludwig, Quarter Jade, and NorthernLion give creators (and their audiences) a voice in Captain.tv’s development.
“We’d love to see Captain.tv partner with content creators throughout the game’s lifecycle and start development early. That early integration resulted in a product that had both unique mechanics and a unique integrated marketing campaign that community players, content creators, and really made the game stand out,” said Monica Loya-Clarke, Vice President of Game Developer Partnerships at Loaded said.
Loaded was responsible for brokering the deal between Captain.tv and their original streaming partners, and developing Nitro’s go-to-market strategy. Fans should expect further collaboration through Loaded. The deal is part of the agency’s recently announced consulting and manufacturing joint venture, Expand the world.
In addition to capturing streamer feedback, Nitro will provide an opportunity for streamers to monetize their audiences directly. Certain microtransactions in the game will support both developers and streamers. Initially, the game will have custom cosmetics such as car skins, characters, and emotes available for purchase.
