Cameron Jordan must start the Saints pitiful pass

Full-back Cameron Jordan was the face of the New Orleans Saints’ defense during his 12 seasons with the organization, which makes his disappearing act starting in 2022 surprising .

Through the first two games, Jordan has a QB pressure, the least in two games since joining the NFL. Over the past 11 seasons, Jordan has averaged 6.6 pressures in the two starting games each season.

As a team, the Saints have a sack. For a team that has invested a lot of money and drafted resources into its defense, the lack of production is almost exclusively with that team.

According to data from Pro Football Focus, the Saints were blitzed midfielder less than 10% of all dips this season, showing the team’s belief that they can get rigorous pressure on midfielders from their forward quartet. That hasn’t happened so far, though, with the team’s pressure rating at just 11 percent.

The team’s hasty defense bounced back significantly after being ripped apart by the Atlanta Falcons running 120 yards behind Cordarrelle Patterson in Week 1. Now, the defense needs to show an improvement in passing speed.

Victory over the Carolina Panthers in Week 3 could be based on that.

The Panthers started at full-back Baker Mayfield didn’t do much to prove the Cleveland Browns made the wrong decision to hand him off for the season. However, the small flashes of quality production he displayed as a Panther went against the defensive fronts that reflected what the Saints wanted to do.

The splits between his throws where he gets a free kick and no free kick suggest a better midfielder when the defense doesn’t bring in extra passes. Against lightning, Mayfield is 12 of 23 for 101 yards and interception. He’s 18th out of 34 for 279 yards and two touches without a penalty.

If the results from the first two weeks are unchanged, the Saints’ defensive strategy will be completely in the hands of the Panthers.

As the leader on defence, Jordan must be the catalyst for the Saints to get the pass back on track. One of his best performances last season was against the Panthers, according to Saints Wire’s John Sigler.
