President Joe Biden will announce the effort on Tuesday at the White House, where he will receive the latest version of targeted COVID footage Sub-variables Omicron BA.4 / BA.5. He will be joined by executives from major pharmacies including CVS Health Corp., Rite Aid Corp. and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc.
According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, only about 20 million Americans have received the latest version of the vaccine. Coronavirus hospitalizations and deaths have begun to rise in some European countries and parts of the United States, as new versions of the virus get better, potentially evading immunity from vaccines or previous infections to spread more widely.
The White House will issue new guidance requiring employers to hold on-site flu and coronavirus vaccine clinics, email employees urging them to get vaccinated, and provide paid time off for workers who meet side effects.
The White House is also asking businesses improve air quality in their buildings and ask employees to check them regularly — and treat them if they’re infected.
As part of that push, Walgreens is expected to begin a program in the coming weeks that will allow Americans living in areas designated by the government as “socially vulnerable” to buy drugs from Pfizer Inc. Paxlovid online coronavirus treatment and get Uber Inc drivers. and DoorDash Inc. deliver them for free.
CVS, Rite Aid and Albertsons Cos Inc. is offering customers coupons and discounts if they receive an updated version of the booster.
