If you’re reading this, chances are you’re struggling with a dry, itchy, and flaky scalp. Welcome to the club no one wants to be a part of! 😉 The good news is 1) you’re not alone and 2) help is here! That’s right, we’re right there with you, friend. And by “we” I am referring to most of the LIY Group. What happens to our best! Whether it’s the time of year, washing your hair too much or the consequences of using too much dry shampoo; the struggle is real! To combat those itchy flakes we’re all too familiar with, we’ve tackled the problem ourselves [errr, scalps]. Several LIY women have tested the highest rated scalp care products on the market to find the Best Hair Products for Dry Scalp!
Note: women who have tested the following products have struggled with dry, flaky, itchy, and irritated scalps from product buildup. This is often confused with dandruff, a chronic condition often thought of as a mild form of seborrheic dermatitis. If you suspect you have dandruff, ask your doctor or dermatologist about a medicated shampoo!
Now, let this party begin. Here are the best hair products for dry scalp!
“If you are someone struggling with building a product [to the point of an itchy, flaky scalp] a clarifying shampoo could be the solution! You probably already know and love Olaplex products, and this cleansing shampoo is no exception! It is specially formulated to remove product buildup, excess oil and hard minerals in water. I use it once a week and my hair has never been so clean!

“Ouai detox shampoo is arguably one of the most popular detox shampoos on the market, so I was excited to try it out! It did a great job of removing product buildup, but left my hair a bit dry. I think this product would work best for people with oily scalps.”
-Claire, Team LIY
“If you’re looking for something a little more budget-friendly to get the job done, Kristin Ess is your girl! It has a very nice scent without being too strong and we love that the pointed tip allows you to apply the shampoo directly to your scalp [great for someone with thick hair or extensions!]. It produces a lot of foam and you can really feel the product in action! You can find this at Amazon, Target, and most pharmacies! Some members of Team LIY use this app regularly!”

“I wanted to try this product for a couple of reasons, price and ingredients! After some trial and error, I find it best to apply 2-3 drops to clean, dry hair just before bed. If you apply too much, your hair may look a bit greasy. After the drops, I will massage my scalp for a few minutes. Overall, I noticed that my head no longer felt itchy and even when I scratched my head without realizing it, I didn’t see as many scabs as before. I’m sure there’s still some here and there, but I’ve definitely seen improvement! 4/5 from me!

“I hadn’t heard anything but great reviews about divi so was excited to try it out. The product has a wonderful scent and the mint gives a cooling sensation when applied which immediately relieves the itch I am experiencing. Since using divi I’ve also noticed new hair growth, which is super exciting as I’ve been going through some severe postpartum hair loss.”

“Scalp Cleansing Days are my favorite days of the week! If you’re looking for a product that really removes flakes and build-up, try adding a scalp exfoliator to your hair care routine. This one is on the expensive side, so I suggest you start small to try it out! I use it about once a week and it lasts for several months – a little is enough!” -Claire, Team LIY
“I LOVE AND LOVE Goop Exfoliating Shampoo! It has helped my product grow a lot! I have been using it for the last year and use it every 2-3 washes. It’s an expensive purchase, but each bath lasts about 4-6 months.”
-Heather, Ambassador LIY
“I actually stopped using this product after 3 uses. I find it very gentle on the scalp, feels a bit cool! Unfortunately, I find that it dries out my hair and the scalp results are not worth the dry hair. I looked at the reviews after trying it out and found that I’m not the only one who feels the same way. I’ve seen other people love this product from the reviews, but it just didn’t work for my hair.” -Heather, Ambassador LIY
“Although this doesn’t cure all my dry scalp problems [hello flakes], there are a few things I love about it: the scent, the ease of use and the fact that it doesn’t make my hair greasy but on the contrary is very smooth. I probably didn’t use it enough times to really heal my dry scalp, but from the first tries over the past few weeks, I haven’t noticed major changes.” -Erin, Team LIY
