Arsenal host Manchester United at the Emirates on Sunday (January 22) in the framework of the Premier League. Mikel Arteta’s students are flying high on the rankings after 18 games, while their opponent is 8 points behind in 4th place.
Meanwhile, Declan Rice prefers a move to Emirates. Elsewhere, the Gunners encountered obstacles in their pursuit of Eduardo Camavinga. On that note, here are the key Arsenal transfer stories for January 22, 2023:
Declan Rice wants to move to Emirates
The 24-year-old has excelled for the Hammers in recent seasons but is now eager to take the next step in his career. The player has no shortage of options, with the Blues and Gunners among the clubs eager to secure his signature.
Rice was part of the Chelsea academy during his early years but was allowed to leave before he could realize his potential. The club’s hierarchy are eager to correct their mistakes and are currently working to get his signature. However, the Englishman wants to move to the Emirates, as he is intrigued by the idea of playing under Arteta.
The Spaniard has taken his side to the top of the league this season, making them contenders to go on all the way. However, Arteta is aware that his team needs reinforcements to sustain their recent momentum and wants to place Rice in the center of midfield. West Ham would ideally demand a hefty fee, more than £100m, for their star.
However, the Englishman’s current contract expires in 2024 and he has yet to commit to a new one. As such, the 24-year-old could have a discounted deal at the end of the season. Rice has made 26 appearances in all competitions for The Hammers this season, scoring 1 goal and assisting 3 more.
Arsenal suffer defeat by Eduardo Camavinga
Arsenal have been dealt a blow in their bid to win Eduardo Camavinga to the United Arab Emirates.
The French midfielder is one of the brightest young talents at the moment and has been quite impressive with Real Madrid. However, he is said to be unstable at the Santiago Bernabeu after failing to start regularly under Carlo Ancelotti.
The Gunners are hoping to secure his signature by giving him a regular first-team start.
The north London giants have been closely linked with a move for players this month. However, speaking recently, quoted by 90 Min, the player’s agent Joshua Barnett said that his client is satisfied with Los Blancos:
“There is no truth (about his departure). Of course every club in the world wants him, but he is very happy at Real Madrid and Real Madrid is also very happy with Camavinga,” Barnett said.
Speaking recently, Ancelotti also emphasized the 20-year-old player is definitely in his plans.
“I really believe in him. Admittedly I took him off the field many times at the end of the first half and I have not always been fair to him in this regard, but I do have full confidence. on him, and he will contribute to the team tomorrow as he always does,” said Ancelotti.
Camavinga has made 26 appearances in all competitions this season for the La Liga giants, recording one assist.
Edu Gasper wants Raphinha at Emirates
Journalist Pete O’Rourke has said that Arsenal sporting director Edu Gasper is a fan of Raphinha.
The 26-year-old moved to Barcelona from Leeds United last summer but has struggled to settle in at Camp Nou. Arteta is looking for additions to the attack and is ready to return for this player.
The Gunners were closely linked with a move to Brazil last summer but no deal was reached. Speaking to Give Me Sport, O’Rourke said that Edu believes his countryman would fit in great at the Emirates.
“It makes sense that Arsenal are interested in Raphinha. They were clearly very interested in signing him last summer before his move to Barcelona, so I’m sure he’s still on the radar. Edu also admires his fellow Brazilian very much and thinks he could be a good fit for Arsenal,” said O’Rourke.
Raphinha has made 24 appearances in all competitions for the Blaugrana this season, scoring four goals and six assists.
