Anne Heche comatose after car crash, still in critical condition – National

Anne Heche has remained in critical condition since she crashed her car into a Los Angeles home on Friday, a spokesman for the actor said.

Michael McConnell, a member of the Los Angeles talent agency Zero Gravity Management, which represents Heche, told Reuters the actor remained in a coma and was connected to a ventilator on Monday.

McConnell also told the paper that Heche, 53, had “serious lung damage that required mechanical ventilation and burns that required surgical intervention.”

Initial reports said the actor was in a “stable” condition following the collision, but her spokesperson now says that Heche passed out after being taken to an ambulance.

Heche was seen speeding through Los Angeles in a blue Mini Cooper Clubman on Friday before she crashed into a one-story house.

Television video showed the vehicle, badly damaged and burned, being dragged from the home, with a woman on a stretcher and struggling as firefighters loaded her into an ambulance.

No other injuries were reported, and no arrests were made.

The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) said in a statement that it took 59 firefighters about 65 minutes to put out the “stubborn blaze”.

According to popular news site TMZ, Heche had previously crashed into the garage of another apartment building nearby before fleeing the scene.

She is currently being investigated for misdemeanor DUI and hit and run, LAPD Officer Annie Hernandez told CNN Monday.

Police received orders to take Heche’s blood samples on the day of the crash but are still awaiting the results, CNN reported.

Heche was unable to meet the investigator due to her injury.

The house that was attacked by Heche’s car was demolished and red-tagged by the LAFD, meaning it was deemed unsafe for residence.

The resident, Lynne Mishele, was at home at the time of the crash and survived uninjured. A GoFundMe page has been set up for her to “help Lynne start over”.

A native of Ohio, Heche first rose to prominence on the NBC soap opera Another world from 1987 to 1991. She won a Daytime Emmy Award for this role.
