Andor Easter egg: 2 Rogue One characters in the new episode

AndorDisney Plus’ Excellent Rogue One prequel seriesreturned two other characters from 2016 film by Gareth Edwards in episode 8, “Narkina 5.” Of course, Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor has been here all along (as it were Genevieve O’Reilly’s Asthma), but this week he joined an old friend and another special guest.

[Ed. note: Spoilers follow for Andor and Rogue One.]

“Narkina 5” is named after the planet that Andor, currently transits through great alias Keef Girgo, was jailed on. It’s a tough place with a fearsome floor manager played by the evil Andy Serkis, and Cassian is assigned to a desk with six other inmates.

One of those prisoners will be familiar with Rogue One fan – Ruescott Melshi (Duncan Pow), one of the key members of the group who stole the Death Star plan in the final act of Rogue One (he is the one who wears the soft hat and glasses). Melshi and Andor are best friends in Rogue Oneand here in Andor we can see their first meeting.

This version of Melshi was defeated by the harsh conditions on Narkina 5, warning Cassian that freedom was a dream with the harsh duties of the New Royals, and that even if they promised to drop in at a certain point, it would be foolish to believe in them.

Others Rogue One slightly higher profile guest: Forest Whitaker’s Saw Gerrera. First time radical rebel leader Andor appears when Stellan Skarsgård’s Luthen meets him. Luthen wanted to sell him the stolen Imperial parts in exchange for Gerrera meeting a man named Anto Kreegyr – a proposition Gerrera very reluctantly accepted, both because of his opinion of Kreegyr and desire to work alone.

Forest Whitaker looks skeptical as Saw Gerrera in Andor.

Gerrera first appeared as a supporting character in Clone War TV show, before appearing in Rogue One, Rebels, Bad lotand Jedi: Fallen Orders video games. Trained by Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano, he is a divisive figure among the Rebel forces in the Star Wars universe for the violent and radical protest tactics of his group (known as the Party). In Rogue OneHe is also the adoptive parent of protagonist Jyn Erso.

Andor further more than easter eggs and references, which is what makes it such a thrilling watch and a new change of pace for Star Wars Universe. And even in these moments, it feels more like an opportunity; both Melshi and Gerrera play important roles in the arc of our main characters in Andorand watching those relationships grow over the course of the season and show will be a real treat.
