American Airlines to launch premium suites with private doors by 2024

Premium seating in the US long-haul fleet will grow by more than 45% by 2026.

Major US airline, American Airlines, has added more suites to some of its furthest flights in an effort to attract more affluent travelers. This decision comes after the COVID-19 situation has improved globally and the aviation sector has begun to respond to business travel needs. Beginning in 2024, American Airlines will introduce new suites with flatbeds and sliding doors for privacy.

And with the advent of these luxury suites, American Airlines’ First Class Flagship, its flagship service on many international and other long-haul flights, will come to an end.

The project is the airline’s latest attempt to increase the number of seats available to passengers willing to pay more for more comfort on board.

Major US airline executives recently said leisure passengers are buying higher-end tickets at higher prices.

According to the airline’s statement, “We believe our Flagship Suite product offers our customers what they want most on a long-haul flight: privacy doors, flat seats, direct aisle access and more personal space.”

Starting in 2024, each delivery of the Airbus A321XLR and Boeing 787-9 will include a set of Flagship Suite seats with privacy doors.

“With the new interiors on long-haul aircraft, premium seating on the US long-haul fleet will increase by more than 45% by 2026. The US Boeing 787-9 will have 51 Flagship Suite seats and 32 seats. Premium Economy class seats, and its Airbus A321XLR aircraft will have 20 Flagship Suite seats and 12 Premium Economy seats,” the airline said in a statement.

American Airlines announced that it will continue to offer Flagship Business on its current fleet of Boeing 777-200, Boeing 787-8 and Boeing 787-9 aircraft.

American Airlines has not revealed how much the company will spend on cabin upgrades.

For years, airlines have reduced the size of first-class cabins or eliminated them entirely to make room for redesigned business-class and premium economy-class seats.
