Kathmandu:
A 6.6-magnitude earthquake hit Nepal on Wednesday morning, the country’s seismic center said, with media reporting six people dead.
Reuters partner ANI reported that six people were found dead after a house collapsed due to an earthquake in Nepal’s Doti district.
Earlier, the Europe-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) had rated the quake at magnitude 5.6.
The quake was centered about 158 kilometers (98 miles) northeast of Pilibhit, a city in the neighboring Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, and struck at a depth of 10 kilometers, EMSC added.
Media reports after the earthquake showed tremors were also felt in the Indian capital New Delhi and surrounding areas.
India’s National Seismic Center marked a 6.3 magnitude earthquake.
