Maintenance deficiencies were identified as one of the causes of the accident.
Mexico City:
Local authorities say at least one person was killed and 22 injured in a train collision on a Mexico City subway early Saturday morning.
The mayor of the city, Claudia Sheinbaum, said the accident happened as the trains started operating.
City security director Omar Garcia told local media outlet Grupo Milenio that the dead was a young woman, while the 22 injured did not appear to be in serious condition.
He added that four other people trapped on a wagon on Line 3 have been rescued and are in good health.
A series of accidents have occurred on the subway in recent years. The most serious was the collapse of the railway overpass on Line 12 in May 2021, killing 26 people and injuring more than 60.
Maintenance deficiencies were identified as one of the causes of the accident.
